How we determined the “Top Songs of the Decades”

Friday, January 8th, 2010

First off, we’re really really old, and actually remember all of the decades. Second, we saved the pop charts out of record stores when we were in Junior High.  And third, we measured total sales.  “The Tennessee Waltz” was the biggest chart success of the 50’s, but “Hounddog” and “Don’t Be Cruel” sold a buttload of records. Quadruple Platinum, baby.

As far as the most popular “City Songs”, well, you’ve listened to both episodes and you realize what a daunting task we face each week. Same story–chart success and record sales. One important thing we’ve learned in our research: There aint no train station in Clarksville.  The Monkees have lost all their credibility, and have been banished from future episodes.

Send us any grand brainstorms for new shows.

Totally Irrational Thinking

Here’s what’s odd about doing this damn show. We get a lot of emails from people that really like what we’re doing, and that’s just dandy. But the ones that we like to frame and put up on the wall are from the complete lunatic fringe that think our little novelty music show is going to buckle Western civilization to its very knees.

We love the emails wherein we are blamed for rampant drug use, dogs getting hit by cars, a recent spike in cannibalism, and the pernicious human female breast. Those are the emails we really find fascinating. But for the rest of you, let’s be friends! Let’s walk the pathway of human warmth, hand in hand, and we hope you’ll enjoy many future episodes.

By the way, we ain’t exactly geniuses here, so if you have any great ideas, be sure and pass them along. Let me rephrase this: if you think you’re so stinkin’ brilliant, then send us a great idea, Chester!
